Self-custody for teams

Connect signing authority, operational procedures and continuity planning.

Team custody is a governance problem as well as a technical one. The setup must remain understandable when people are unavailable, devices fail or responsibilities change.

01 / Map authority

Distinguish the person requesting a payment, the person reviewing it and the signers authorizing it. Define how destination details are verified independently. Avoid relying on a single chat message as the whole approval process.

02 / Separate policy from procedure

A multisignature threshold specifies which signatures are needed. Daily limits or business approvals may be organizational rules rather than restrictions enforced on-chain. Document the difference so the team understands the actual protection.

03 / Design for absence

Consider lost devices, unavailable signers and a damaged location. Keep appropriate wallet configuration backups and recovery instructions. Evaluate the trade-off between resilience and the number of places sensitive material exists.

04 / Review changes deliberately

Changing a signer generally requires a new wallet policy and a controlled movement of funds. Plan the transition, verify receiving information and document completion. Get qualified help for the specific wallet and legal arrangement.
